Behold. Her is an event series for women who want to get real. Through conversation and an intimate portrait experience, these gatherings are built to foster a foundation for self-love, communal support, and storytelling.
The S Word Series: Part One of Three
Shame. Silence. Service. Satisfaction. Sacrifice. Shyness... Sex. Have you ever wondered why as women it's such a taboo to speak out loud about sex? What about feeling shy just exchanging exciting experiences or concerns with your girlfriends? Have you felt shame experiencing sex at an early age or embarrassed that you haven't really had much of a sex life? Do you feel pressured to have to fulfill society's expectations of sensuality? Is that "lady in the street, but a freak in the bed," phrase hanging over your head? How about feeling tired, but you give in to sex with your partner because there's an obligation you're holding yourself to with having to give, give, give all the time...I can't vouch for everyone, but there's a space needed to listen, learn, and share amongst other women who are open-minded and wanting to do the same.
Join us for a portrait hour hosted by BUREAU. Our topic for the evening is based on the insecurities and shyness of discussing sexuality and what it means to own up to the things we like, not the things we feel we're held up to do. We're all about vulnerability and honesty during these events, and though we understand that topics may be uncomfortable, know that you're in a safe space to share. The conversation will be led by Kerra, the owner and creator of BUREAU, which is located in Adams Morgan.
This is a 3 part series, follow up conversations are offered outside from this ticket.
Grab your seat and take a journey with us and new lady friends. Sometimes it takes a little motivation to get out of the house and break out our comfort zones for a moment, but realize that you're not the only one doing the same thing. There will be plenty others rushing from work and feeling like a hot mess, but we’re a team through this. As we get older, it’s becoming more difficult to make friends and genuine friendships at that. As women, we’re so careful about what we share and how we share, that it’s brought a blanket over our mouths to speak up and express ourselves to each other. As technology continues to grow, so does the distance we create from the lost art of conversation. This event isn’t meant to be pretty. It’s meant to challenge you, to push you to break from the norm, to give you permission to share your story unapologetically. We’re here for you, just like you’re being present for us.
What to Expect
We'll begin the evening with a small cocktail hour with drinks and small bites provided to you for the night. Then we'll proceed to sit down with our treats and open the discussion with introductions. We'll dive into the topic at hand shortly after, which is led by a woman who deems it important to discuss. This is not a workshop, how-to, or panel discussion. You have a choice to actively play a role in the conversation. You have the freedom of sitting and listening as well. Half way through the discussion, there will be one-on-one interviews and portrait session with Founder and Photographer, Leah Beilhart. The first image is downloadable and included in your ticket price. You'll then be a part of an ongoing gallery with other women who have attended your session. You'll gain access to a private Facebook group exclusive to those who have participated in the series and gain access to private gatherings, discounted services, and insight on special future events.
No phones will be used until the end of the event
No exchanges of social media handles, emails, or numbers until the end of the event
No need to discuss where you work or who you work for at the event
This brand and these events are not meant to please everyone, but they are built to host every type of woman. We have no labels here. The only labels are the ones we place on ourselves. The only exceptions held are the ones we carry over our heads. We’re not here to impress each other, compete with each other, or trade services with each other. We’re all gathering together because we believe that the art of conversation is powerful and we all need a little shoulder to cry on.
